Alvarez defeated Cotto and became the new champion of the WBC middleweight title


Mexican boxer Saul Alvarez defeated Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto and became the new world champion of the WBC middleweight title.


The duel between the 35-year-old Cotto and 25-year-old Alvarez took place today, November 22, in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay arena and continued for all 12 rounds. As a result of a unanimous decision victory with a score of 117-111, 119-109 and 118-110 a Mexican boxer Saul Alvarez became the new champion of WBC.

It should be noted that the fight took place in the framework of the interim weight of 155 pounds (70.3 kilograms). Now Alvarez has 46 wins (32 by KO), one loss and one draw. For Cotto it was the fifth defeat. He also has the asset of 40 wins (33 by KO). In this fight Alvarez earned $ 5 million, and Cotto - 15 million.

Just before this fight Cotto was stripped of his WBC middleweight title. This happened after the Cotto's refusal to comply with the rules of the organization. Puerto Rican boxer did not pay a mandatory contribution for the fight.
